God is faithful, even to the faithless. God's love for us is not contingent upon us. No matter how bad it gets, we can have permanent and eternal rest from our enemies. Yet our worst enemy is not other people, but our own enmity. Jesus conquered enmity on our behalf, so reconcile with one another as Christ reconciled us. Return evil not with more evil, but the violence of grace and unmerited favor.
God's faithfulness is not dependent upon us measuring up. But when we rise to the occasion for such a time as this, be sure to seek divine intervention before human intervention.
Where is God in all of this? God is to be trusted, even when His providences seem to run contrary to His promises.
